The 'Great Lakes Gathering' is a straightforward KING-MAKER map based on the states of the Great Lakes area in the U.S.A.
These include Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, northern Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and of course, Michigan.
I tried to give the landscape a 'natural' look, though there is always room for improvement.
There are the various animals inhabiting the woods and plains in moderate amounts...including wolves, deer, bear, pheasants and rabbits etc.
The lakes themselves include a dolphin or two(sturgeon were NOT available in the editor!!! lol)
Also, if one looks close enough, they might catch a glance at the mysterious 'Michigan blue whale' near the Chicago coastal area. :-)
PLAYABILITY:
This map includes 10 estates to choose from, and several villages throughout.
There are plenty of resources in the map, and lots of trees as well.
Some woodcutting may be necessary to provide for well organized farming zones and to make room for solid defensive walls around state borders.
There are also a few 'bandit camps' around the edges, which, while not ferocious, will keep one alert in the early stages of the game.
I have personally played from all of the estates, and all has run smoothly. (please advise if any 'bugs' are found, thank you!)
So, lace up your boots, strap on your bow...and prepare for battle.

WHOA! Another "real terrain" map! From the looks of the minimap, this is outstanding! I will have to download this and give it a shot tomorrow...
If possible Shadrac, please check out my "Salem" map... I actually included a minimap of Salem, Massachusetts in the download section and designed the scenario from that map. Welcome aboard the map-making train... Sincerely, Cat |

Hey, thank you, Cat.
I have downloaded your Salem map just now, and intend to give it a go tonight. Looks interesting.

There was no glitches to speak of, although for the first year or two of gameplay there was considerable lag as 7 AI opponents were busy building their estates... other than that, it worked very well. My favorite part was once my army approached maximum size, I started using burning carts from a seige camp, launching them like missles from my estates into the enemy territory to keep them at an economic disadvantage as all their building burned down! :)
Balance: 5
This is a 5 for two reasons... one person vs. 7 player opponents was fun as heck, and challenging yet achievable... second as a player vs. player via internet or LAN, each castle estate had resources... very equal, very balanced.
Creativity: 5
An outstanding rendition of an actual map... very well done!
Map Design: 5
Is this your first map?!?!?!? There are some excellent techniques used here... the light blue shading/color of the water is AWESOME... trees used as natural estate walls... natural blending of terrain types.. I was very impressed with many design aspects of this map.
Story/Instructions: 3
Not really a story, but the detailed instructions you gave help alert the player(s) what should be expected in this terrain.
Additional Comments:
This kingmaker is like mangoman's "Smallville" on a grand scale... you have neighbors right next to your castle... very little room to build, which is an economic challenge... and you must CONSTANTLY defend from a variety of attacks. I strongly recommend that people give this map a try. Sincerely, Cat

Well, CCat, this was the second map I ever made. I just got SH2 a matter of weeks ago.
I did make one 'FreeBuild' map,,,but not long after I lost my hard-drive, so it's off in cyberspace somewhere....

It all works and I have not found any AI that wont work.
Balance: 5
Its a pain in the arse from almost anywhere, but definitly winnable

Freakin Awesome! How you came up with this idea is beyond me.

Amazing detail with the state lines. I know how crappy this map editor can be to use and you did an amazing job my friend. Also, I love the "use of trees as defence and such. As the game progresses and natural walls are cut down, new routes across the map appear opening up new strategic possibilities and new enemies.
Story/Instructions: 5
Well, it is Kingmaker after all, but since you were able to spell all your words correctly and use proper grammer....
Additional Comments: Easliy one of my top 10 maps to play of all time, if not top 5. So much fun and so well designed. Anyone interested in playing this multiplayer online should let me know. Thanks A Bunch and BRAVO!
