Legend tell of an uncharted island, far far away from civilisation as we know it. It is said that on this island, great fortune can be found for the one to colonise it. Some say it only exists in our minds. Great stories take place on this island in the fairy tails we tell our children. In these tails it is called Catan.
To make sure that the island doesn’t exist (so no one else can claim it), the King has ordered his most promising knights to find this island at all costs. You have set sail with the three other knight and for months the only thing your scouts could report was an endless ocean without land.
It was time to turn back home. Rations were almost gone and morality was very low. A mutiny was at hand when a scout screamed: Land, I see land!”
When you arrived at the beach strange stone faces looked at you. They appeared so real it frightened the men. “What were they?”, and more importantly, “Who build them?”
An enormous thunder broke free up in the mountains. It was a volcano that just broke free from it’s foundations.
Will you colonise this island called Catan together of will greed take control and will you take it for yourself???
Writers note
This is a map inspired by the board game “Settlers of Catan”. It’s a 4 player map. Just like the board game, you have to depend on other estates because your own estate can’t acquire stone and iron ore.
It took me an enormous amount of time to build this map. Not only to make it look natural and filled with lots of details. Most of all I wanted to make a balanced map that wasn’t split in exactly 4 parts, but looked more like it was made by nature itself, unspoiled.
I think every estate has it’s own qualities and benefits. You will experience variety every time you choose another estate.
Playability: 5
I liked this map, it's fun to play, yet not to daunting. The idea was a good one to.
Balance: 5
The balance in this map makes it fun. I was always struggling over my rivals for different estates dotted around the area. Made for some good tactical choices.
Creativity: 4
If this was your own map i would've voted five, but since it's based off a board game i had to vote 4. Still it's very well done.
Map Design: 5
The map was good, lots of eye candy and tactical advantages/disadvantages. The idea of making it balanced and yet natural made it more fun to play. I prefer natural over balanced maps since the balanced maps are to set, not realistic enough and not presenting the player with choices to make over who he/she should destroy first. But the fact that you went and made a bit of each made this map more enjoyable than most :) hope to see more from you in the future!
Story/Instructions: 4
Good details to go with the map, giving a brief analysis of what the map is. There isn't really a story needed for this one, but you wrote one anyways, a nice simple on to! i give a 4 :)
Additional Comments:
I like the attention you gave this map, it's good that you spent time to get it right and make it suit both types of players needs, well done!
