Tabularium Regalis Desideravit de Artur Regnum
In a simmering rage, the ancient wizard Aldemos, Uncle of the late Valdemos, devised a scheme to avenge himself upon Arthur and Camelot. After spending weeks in his dark catacombs concocting vile brews and potions, he waited patiently for an opportune moment to strike. Then, when many of Arthur’s knights were on their individual quests and Merlin was away to parts unknown, Aldemos assumed the guise of the chief steward and boldly entered Camelot undetected. While there, he gained access to the Royal Kitchen and wine cellars where he was able to administer his potions into the food and drink to be served that evening.
Then, he waited.
That night, the revelers praised Arthur on how delightfully the various foods tasted and how the sparkling wines sated the most particular of palates as each, in turn, had their fill. There were toasts and cheers for the kitchen staff as all were invited to sample the sumptuous feast. As the night wore on, a few of the courtiers joked about those who had drifted off to sleep in the midst of the festival hall. No one present realized all of the royal food testers were among those sleeping soundly. Their frivolity soon subsided, though, as each was unable to stay awake and, one by one, began
to slumber deeply where they sat or fell. Arthur himself failed to rouse those around him as he slowly slumped forward, spilling his bejeweled goblet of wine. Nor did anyone notice as the King’s golden crown slipped silently from his head, rolled slowly across the banquet table, and then clanged loudly onto the marbled floor of Camelot.
A solitary cloaked figure then coalesced in the shadows and stared malevolently at the unconscious courtiers. The apparition hesitated, as if taken aback by the entirety of the scene before slowly approaching the main banquet table. The steady rhythmic clacking of an iron-shod staff echoed eerily throughout the now silent festival hall. Aroused by the strange rhythm, Sir Perceval, who had feasted less than the others, gamely struggled to his feet and cried out, “To arms, Men! A Daemon is upon us!” No response was given. Staggering forward to face the approaching menace, Perceval struggled mightily to pull his heavy broadsword from its scabbard. Undeterred, the evil figure slowly waved a bony hand in his direction and whispered, “Sleep, my friend, sleep…” Unable to resist, Perceval dropped to one knee, then collapsed noisily onto the marbled floor as the shadowy spectre continued towards the King’s table. Stooping carefully, Aldemos snatched up Arthur’s golden crown and held it high in a clenched fist, laughing maniacally. It was a throaty, terrifying cackle that would have struck fear in anyone able to hear it.
Moving quickly, Aldemos opened the massive doors of Camelot and signaled his henchmen stationed in the nearby woods. Soon, wagons filled with nervous soldiers loyal to Aldemos filed into the courtyard. These underlings warily dispersed throughout Camelot and loaded unconscious troops onto waiting carts and wagons. With a snarl, Aldemos first retrieved a parchment, then a dagger from within the folds of his cloak and nailed his proclamation to the wooden doorway. The entire troop then departed, heading towards Aldemos’ stronghold deep in the Fenmire Swamp.
Several days later, Lancelot, accompanied by Sir Bedivere, returned from an extended hunting trip only to find Camelot’s main doors standing ajar with no guards in sight. Several women and children with downcast countenances milled about the courtyard aimlessly, some openly weeping. One pointed a trembling hand towards the document Aldemos left behind. With an ominous feeling of dread, Lancelot leapt from his horse and tore the parchment free from its dagger. His anger grew as he read aloud that Aldemos had truly enjoyed his recent visit to Camelot and had decided to induct Arthur and his men into his own army. Boastfully, Aldemos described how he intended to secret each of the Knights and Men-at-arms at various locations throughout the dreaded Fenmire Swamp. There they would stay in an unconscious state until the Swamp claimed them as its own. If left undisturbed for a fortnight, their minds as well as their military skills would then belong to Aldemos forever. The troops would make fine additions to the force he was raising with the Dwarven King in the Highlands. After a pleasant stay in the castle dungeon, Arthur would mindlessly serve as supreme military commander and unhesitatingly do Aldemos’ bidding. The declaration ended by stating Aldemos would return shortly at the head of this grand army, and claim Camelot for his own.
Lancelot glared darkly at Sir Bedivere with clenched teeth. He crushed the parchment in his upraised fist and hissed, “I shall save them, Bedivere, I swear it!” Bedivere pledged to find as many men as possible along with the heavy siege equipment. All would be loaded onto the King’s ships that would then rendezvous’ with Lancelot along the coast near Aldemos’ castle, on the far
side of Fenmire Swamp. Lancelot leapt back onto his waiting horse and galloped out of Camelot following the tracks left by Aldemos’ men.
“I pray our actions are not just as Aldemos desires…” muttered a worried Sir Bedivere.

LD - thanks for the comments, I was beginning to think no SHL regulars were left on this board. This is by far my hardest map I have designed and it took me months to complete the playtesting. It may be too difficult for even I have problems winning the map and I know where the traps and enemies lie in wait. There are many difficult areas and a trick or two is needed to make it thru. This is definitely a Veterans' map so I hope you are able to see it thru to completion. I await your review.
Enjoy!

Hi Gebstar-doing well on this mission-tactics classified(lol). As for mappers for legends they are very thin on the ground so to speak.Seems they've left for sunnier climes-ie crusader and also stronghold 1-some quality maps for SH2.(tongue in cheek joke alert)I know there's a recession on ,but come on folks let's see some support for Legends!!!!!!!
UPDATE just submitted a review for your scenario.[Edited on 03/16/09 @ 09:51 AM]

Playability: 5
Absolutely brilliant to play!(i reccommend experienced players try this masterpiece!)But it doesnt mean less experienced players shouldnt try this map.I had to restart just once as i lost my laddermen and could not 'take' the gatehouse(sorry for the spoiler).Lost first time on the way to the keep-due to the visual appeal of the map.
Balance:5 This ranks as one of the few proportionally balanced maps there is for Legends. The reinforcements are just enough to help you fight your way to victory! There are enemy troops hidden all over the map that try and hinder your progress.Iwas going to comment on the second mission but i dont want to spoil the fun for those who havent played it yet!My advice use your troops wisely
Creativity: 5
this shows what can be done with the legends editor, a well crafted scenario, that will not fail to impress anyone who downloads this map. Well thought out and designed,it reminded me if Sir Gareths' mission. The use of the messages from legends is very impressive and well timed same goes for the invasions.
Map Design: 5
The design, very similar to your'valdemos'loved it!Clearly you took time to create this map and it shows, the swamp fells like a swamp if you get my meaning, cold eerie and sends shivers down your spine.Pity we can't have a day/night option in the editor, just imagine this set at night! As with 'valdemos' it would be a good idea to use the space bar to flatten the map(when you can)so you can plan your route through the treacherous swamp, just when you think "Ah, time for a breather!" you get outlaws or a hail of arrows from some unseen foe hiding in the dense undergrowth! The map editor really is put to great effect here, the use of shrubs, trees, ruins and the other sights and sounds.Take a peek via the editor before playing and be stunned at the strange beauty of Fenmire swamp!
Story/Instructions: 5
Great story, the author draws you into a forgotten world, full of mystery and deception and dark forces, always wondered why Merlin said''dark forces my leige!"Well written and highly descriptive, compels no entices you to find your way through the swamp or to die trying!Pity it isnt longer,as it would make a great piece of literature-how about a page or two where the best stories can be read?
Additional Comments:Overall this is a fantastic scenario, lots of visual detail and has a high replay factor when you feel like a challenge.Excellent work by Gebstar, well done Sir Knight, lets see more maps from you!

After capturing the first gate, I'm too weakened/decimated for a further advance of my surviving troops ... any hints how to start better/to procede? |

Hi Stratego, sorry about the delay. You will need to save some archers to deal with hidden enemies from the relative security of the gatehouse. Once the gatehouse is secure and nearby enemy fire has been suppressed, you may then venture out and search nearby areas of the swamp for hidden reinforcements. Sometimes searching nearby is better than proceeding directly to the goal. Hope this helps.

PS> There is probably more than one way to take the gatehouse... I found that leading with the swordsmen then archers then men at arms for the final close combat works well. Also, you must use Lancelot's strong arm against the enemy armor. Make your stand on the bridge and draw the enemy to you..... G[Edited on 05/24/09 @ 08:55 PM]
