Landscape Tools - 5th Icon - Water

Various brush sizes were used to create these screenshots.

River Tool

Depending on the selected brush size, this tool can be used to make small streams or rivers the size of the largest brush tool. The water is laid on the map by clicking on the river tool and taking the cursor to where you need to put water on the map. Move the cursor with the river tool selected and you will get a realistic layout of water.

By using higher elevations your water can take on a realistic flow. Once you have laid in the water you cannot alter the elevation. You will have to erase the water back to land to correct elevation for your water.

Water Direction Tool

This tool allows you to change the direction of the flow of water. It allows a realistic flow as water winds around bends in streams and river. By painting over the water you have placed, it will change the surface ripples to the direction you want the water to flow.

Ripple Tool

Gentle ripple effects are created with this tool. It will give the appearance of rain hitting the water surface.

Waterfall Tool

This tool gives you the ability to create visually stunning waterfalls. By careful placing of the waterfall you can give the water from a higher elevation the appearance of flowing over steep sided terrain. Rocks and spray also add to the realism.

Still Water Tool

This tool will give you still water to work with on your map. Use it to create swamps, frog ponds and still water areas. By using the dead tree tool or the cattail tool you can gain a realistic pond or body of still water.

Place Bridge Tool

With this tool you can gain access to land on the other side of a river placed in the map. The bridge will allow troops and people to move over it.

Sea Tool

This tool allows the placement of ocean / sea water on the map.

Surf Tool

Allows placement of surf where water meets the land. This tool creates crashing surf; combined with spray it will give the appearance of water hitting the rocks and shoreline.

Sea Direction Tool

This tool makes the correction needed so all your waves flow in the right direction. If you do not recheck your ocean it may end up with various directions on your waves. One pass with the largest brush size will alleviate the problem presented in the picture; by pulling the water in the direction you move the cursor and setting all the waves in the correct motion.

The spray tools are all elements that will add to your water's realism.
