The hot Spanish sun beat down on the funeral party wending its way through the streets of Burgos --steep, cobbled paths hardly wide enough for a team of oxen to squeeze through. The mourners were the elite nobility of Castile, followed by a great throng of hatless peasants, merchants, and their families. A great and beloved king had passed away. The rich lace of the aristocracy, the gleaming armor plate of the lords who even now, in these uncertain times, carried their weapons with them – all this filled the eye of the man who stood calmly to watch. That man was a young knight named Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar. And as he watched, he stood off by himself. His heart was pounding with excitement. For his time had come to launch the career he had desired his whole life, the life of the King’s Champion.
The new King of Castile was none other than Sancho II, Rodrigo’s patron and feudal lord. And in such times of turmoil, there could be no doubt that Rodrigo would soon be called upon to aid the king in the struggle against Castile’s many enemies. Indeed, as Rodrigo looked out over the expanse of Northern Spain that could be seen from the high hills of Burgos, he saw a land teeming with opportunity, where a knight could prove his absolute loyalty and earn untold honor. The sound of running feet made him turn… Even now, a messenger from King Sancho was hurrying towards him.
“What is it?” Rodrigo asked.
The messenger, struggling to catch his breath, pale with fear, finally managed to blurt out, “The king’s cousin, his brother’s niece --- the beautiful Lady Jimena --- she has been taken prisoner by the Qadir of Valencia. The king begs to know: Is there anything you can do to help?”
Rodrigo grinned back at him, “Just let me summon my horse.”
The Legend of El Cid had begun.

Hi again Gordon!
Great map you have here.:D
The first mission is a little tough
after the bandit camps, that is if
you survive the bandit camps.:D
I will keep trying to complete all the
quests in mission 1, and hopefully I will
complete the map. It's wonderful!
Please take a look at my new map aswell, if
you have the time:D
Thanks

Thanks for your warm responses, guys! Regarding scenarios 1 and 2, they're designed to be puzzle missions. All the quests can be solved. Make sure you examine the map closely and assess all of your assets thoroughly as you go into each quest! [Edited on 10/08/06 @ 06:18 PM]

I like Historic maps and this is just great!
Map Design: 5
Although there are some minor details that I noticed (water comes directly out of the top of a mountain) but the overall design is phat. The voice on the beginning ---- very good.

Its a very detailed story. Good music stuff :-)). Very authentic.

Hello, Gordon . . .
I really appreciate the effort you put into your maps, and I especially enjoy the puzzle-solving aspect! We need more like yours.
I'm into the last mission, but I've noticed that that a couple of earlier ones seem to end prematurely. M3(?) ends before the monastery is completed. M4(?) ends before all the enemy lords are killed. What do you think? Is it a problem from my side or yours?

Hey Odyss -- thanks for your warm comments! I'm not sure why you're having a problem... you DO realize that only TWO quests have to be completed to win the mission, don't you? I suspect the mission is giving you a "win" while you're working on the third quest...?
Oh, and in m3(that's the number of the mission you're referring to, not m4), you only have to kill ONE lord to win!!
turtleman -- I'm glad you're making progress! I very much look forward to your comments!
