Chapter 2 in King Arthur's rigorous journey to South Marr and the Dol Island.
The Golden Grail has been stolen from the Dragon of the Ocean (King Arthur), but he retrieved it back in Aamotan (North Marr). Now he must successfully return it to Dol, and secure it.
After a rigorous journey, King Arthur has arrived at his hiding place located in Sunndalen, North Marr.
This place was peaceful, and ruled by the Dwarf Queen, until "Vlad" and his evil forces took settlement in a neighbouring valley. The Dwarfs have escaped high up into the mountains, and the Queen has retreated to a cave and made herself inaccessible.
Beowulf is also in the area, doing what he can to further his treasury's riches.
The main portion of this land is high wild mountains with deep fjords between; and as if it could get worse, the lack of roads in the area make it even more rigorous.
So, the journey back to South Marr and Dol Island will be long and dangerous.
King Arthur knows Beowulf and some belligerent locals, (later known as the "Vikings") are also hunting the Grail. Beowulf seems at the moment not to understand what's going on, but sooner or later he will, so there is no time to lose. And the "Vikings" live just on the other side of these mountains.
King Arthur needs to build up his forces before he can leave, but he must also build a Ship and repair the Pier, Vlad destroyed everything when he arrived.
There is only one road out of this valley, via the fjord.
But there is one major problem in this valley, that is the lack of iron mines.
Vlad, has occupied one mine, and the Dwarf Queen has closed down and sealed the other one
before she left to her cave high in the mountains.
Mission 1. Visit the Dwarf Queen, and bargain for permission to use the Iron Mine.
Generate as mutch Archers you can, you want be able to later.
Mission 2. Slay the monster Vlad, so you can concentrate on rebuilding the Ship and the Pier.
Mission 3. Acquire enough Stone, Wood and Pitch. With these resources you might be able to craft a Ship and repair the Pier.
Hope you enjoy !

Playability:
Throughout this entire mission you are faced with large invasions that come swiftly, and with little warning. In addition, certain surprises will hinder your passage to victory, which include fires, ambushes, sneak attacks, and much more! *5*
I enjoyed this mission greatly, and only two points reduced the score. Firstly, the troop limitations that continued to change. Being unable to create archers for the second and third missions is somewhat of a problem if you are unable to create enough to begin with. If you wanted to still limit this, perhaps I could suggest making Reinforcement groups of archers? *4*
And lastly, the ability to buy pitch in the final mission made it very easy, as I had plenty of money, stone, and wood already. I think that turning off the option to buy pitch for mission Three would make it longer than five minutes. *3*
Average Score: 4
Balance:
I have never seen a map this hard and yet supporting that feeling of "must win!" (beyond my own) on this Legends downloads section. The invasions were tough, the events were a killer, and the ambushes were a pain. But, I managed to pull through after restarting the scenario five times and using a few different tactics. *5*
Also, the objectives are very hard to meet at times, with the exception of mission three, where the "Buy Pitch" option is available, making it quite easy. *4.5*
I don't think much needs improvement here! Very good work. You have the makings of an Invasion map creator, that's certain, to have such good Balance so quickly.
Average Score: 4.8
Creativity:
The map contains several great eyecandies, such as the dwarven cave, the waterfall near the castle, and the corridor to the werewolf camp. Such simple little additions add to the flavor of the fantasy map very much. *3*
But, some scripting techniques, and the use of messages definitely adds to the map's uniqueness. *5*
Average Score: 4
Map Design:
This map contains plenty of grasses, shrubs, and rocks mixed around in a fine degree. The author definitely knows the value of using natural features. *4*
However, a lot of the waterfalls, lakes, and rivers flowed and appeared very unnatural, and in addition, the waves on the beach sometimes flowed *backwards*. I'd definitely work on water. *2.5*
Remember that ALL streams and creeks come from rainfall on mountains, these then go to lakes which flow down the mountains from rivers, which then flow with the landscape causing ponds, branches, swamps, and marshes until they reach the sea.
Textures are not very common on the map, unfortunately, and most of the map is the simple base texture. However, a good amount of shading and tinting has been used to slightly make up for this loss. *3*
Average Score: 3.2
Story/Instructions:
A decent length story with a bit of description, some characterisation, and very clear instructions. It lays out the map and missions quite well, and gives the player a decent idea of what happened in the last mission, what he is doing in the scenario, and what he is likely to do in the future one that I surely expect to be made. :) *4*
Average Score: 4
Additional Comments:
sir tarritt, you've improved a great deal since Aamotan, excellent work!
Remember, I'm still willing to better translate your stories before you post them, and if you want this one translated let me know and I'll post up a more claritized translation.
And I mean it! I expect a third mission; since so far I've enjoyed the full series. |

Hi Lord Tanthos !
Thanke you for the great review of the map.
I am making progress, because I got some very good and helpful advises on my first map, and now I got even more. Thanke you!
Yes I am almost agreed with you about the archers. I tryed different ways, but I felt if I gave the player to many archers in the 2. and 3. mission, I felt the edge of the whole map went away, so I tried to force the player to produce plenty of them in the first one.. (because you need some to defend and fullfill the first one),and then take good care of them.
The ability to buy Pitch in the 3. missione should of course have ben turned off.
I upploaded the wrong map. He,he
And "YES", if you want to help me translate my language, I would be more than happy, because I use almost more time with my dictionary, than with my maps :-)
The map is almost finish in the next chapter, I got the story.
How to contact you before "uppload" ??
regards sir tarritt

I summoned Knights while standing where the werewolf generator had been. I just figured I was cleansing the land of strife. Seemed the thing to do. |
