This is my first effort at producing a few custom crests for Stronghold 2. These are based on the coat of arms of several important Scottish Knights involved in the War of Independence. All of these men were ancestors of mine, and thier coat of arms are thus very special to me. I couldn't resist throwing in the Welsh Flagn too. It's just too pretty to pass up, and looks great in the game.
The featured crest in the preview is the coat of arms of the Lowat Frasers. They were a branch of the Fraser clan who were staunch supporters of both William Wallace, and Robert the Bruce. This is the Coat of Arms that Sir Simon Fraser, Wallace's Luitenant, bore on his shield. He was drawn and quartered with Wallace shortly before the Bruce won Scotland's independance.
The Blue crest with the white strawberry flowers bel;ongs to Sir Alexander Fraser. He married Mary Bruce, the King's sister in 1316. He was killed fighting Edward Balliol at the Battle of Dupplin in 1332. Strawberry flowers feature in all of the Fraser crests, due to the fact that the Frasers cultivated strawberries for use in dying cloth red.
The Yellow Shells belong to Sir Patrick Graham. Not much is known of Sir Graham, although he signed the Bruce's declaration of acendancy to the throne, which was sent to the Pope in order to recieve his blessing.
The rest also have little historical significance, but they are as follows:
Red Lion on Gold Background: Duncan, Earl of Fife
Blue Hawk: Sir William Ramsey of Dalhousie (Perfect for the Hawk wouldn't you say?)
Blue w/ White crosses (Hawks along the bar): Sir Reginald Cheyne (I thought this would work well as William's crest, denoting the same family line as the Hawk.)
Blue Lion on Red Background: Sir William Mowat, who absconded to the Bruces side after supporting Edward the 1st for a short time. His Lion became black on a white background following this event, but I elected for the more colorful version here.
The last flag is the Welsh Red dragon on the Green and White Field. Again I elected to include it here because it is quite stunning in game.
I hope you all enjoy my first effort at designing coats of arms for Stronghold 2. I shall post more later if people like them. I'll also take requests, providing I can find examples to work from.
